Dr Catherine Hunter
Clinical Psychologist
Dr Catherine Hunter is a Clinical Psychologist and has worked for NHS services with children, adolescents, and their families for over 10 years. She currently holds a post in a central London Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service working as the Parenting Provision Lead, and provides specialist input to IPC’s Child & Adolescent, Neurodiversity & Cognitive Assessment services.
Catherine works with young people and their families to manage a range of mental health challenges including anger, anxiety, peer relationships and low mood. She is skilled in offering support for parents of younger children, developing interventions to help families and couples facing difficulties with attachment and bonding, challenging dynamics at home and adjustment work following diagnoses. She can provide specific interventions to target difficulties such as sleep, feeding, toileting and challenging behaviours. Catherine regularly administers Cognitive Assessments for children, adolescents and adults. She is skilled in adapting communication and using additional resources to facilitate understanding and access to psychological therapies.
Much of Catherine’s work involves working alongside the key adults and professionals in a child’s life to ensure their needs are being met and thought about carefully across all areas of their life. This work includes liaison with educational and social care settings. Catherine helps run an in-house psychology service that IPC provides for a chain of independent schools. She draws on many therapeutic approaches in her work including systemic and psychodynamic theory, and narrative practice, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and short-term solution focused interventions.
