Dr Tilly Langton is a chartered Clinical Psychologist and has worked for NHS services with children, adolescents and their families for over 10 years. Currently she lives and works in Bristol and holds a post within a specialist child and adolescent mental health team.

Her work draws on a number of approaches including systemic, psychodynamic and trauma-informed theory, and she uses narrative practice and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) in her work.

Tilly has been a visiting lecturer at the Anna Freud Centre and taught on clinical psychology training programmes in the UK.

Support to parents and networks

Much of Tilly’s work in the NHS involves working alongside the adults and professionals around the young person to ensure their needs are being met and they are being thought about carefully in different areas of their lives.

Tilly has worked in various settings providing family-based interventions with parents and uses systemic and mentalisation-based approaches to think about family functioning and ways of responding to challenges and conflict. This has included working with children who are fostered and adopted.

Working with children and young people

Tilly also works with adolescents and children to manage low mood, stress and anxiety. Some of the young people she meets with have struggled with issues around self-harm and there has been concern about their safety. She also has experience of providing care and support to children and adolescents who have experienced adversity and trauma in their lives. She works hard to establish a safe environment in which to begin to explore and make sense of complex feelings in order to build on strengths and resources.

Tilly also supports young people who are struggling in their close relationships which can often include ways to safely manage social media and the online world. Tilly has extensive experience working with young people experiencing distress in relation to their gender and has supported young people to explore this in more depth.

Tilly is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). Tilly is also a committee member for the Avon branch of the Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (ACAMH).
