Dr Chad Shepherd

Dr Brigid MacCarthy is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Executive Coach, with over 30 years of experience working therapeutically with adults of all ages. She was previously an NHS Consultant and has been with IPC for eight years.  She is a qualified dynamic interpersonal therapy (DIT) practitioner and has a particular interest in working psychotherapeutically with identity and cultural difference. Brigid is a member of the British Psychological Society, and its Clinical and Leadership and Management Divisions and Faculty of Psychosis and Complex Needs. 

Brigid contributes to IPC’s Adult Mental Health and Physical Health specialist clinics. She offers both time limited and longer-term therapy to explore issues such as low mood, anxiety and obsessional thinking, concerns about self-image, identity and relationships. She works with people struggling to process traumatic experiences, whether these are single or recurring deeply distressing or disturbing events, and with people who are struggling in their role as a parent of a distressed or challenging child. She provides individual psychotherapy to parents who want to explore the impact of their life experiences and needs on their parenting approach. 

Brigid uses a range of evidence-based psychotherapies, including psychodynamic, narrative and cognitive behavioural (CBT) approaches. She has a PhD in whistleblowing, trained in executive coaching at Henley Business School and as an organisational consultant at the Tavistock Centre in London. She provides therapy and/or coaching to individuals from a range of corporate and public service settings.
