Lauren McCabe

Lauren McCabe trained as a Developmental and Educational Psychologist in Australia and is registered as an Educational Psychologist in the UK. She previously worked on the postgraduate in Supervision and Child Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) programme as well as in a range of clinical settings, including hospitals, child protection services, and both primary and secondary schools. 

Lauren conducted research into childhood trauma at The University of Melbourne and taught undergraduate programme at Australian Catholic University, Melbourne. She helped run a clinical programme for children diagnosed with selective mutism at the Child Mind Institute in New York and continues to deliver workshops on selective mutism across the UK and Australia. Lauren is currently the Deputy Director of the Educational Mental Health Programme (EMHP) at the Anna Freud Centre/University College London and has worked with adults in private practice for over 11 years. 

Lauren provides specialist input into IPC’s Child and Adolescent, Adult Mental Health, Neurodiversity and Cognitive Assessment clinics. Over the years, Lauren has worked with children, young people and adults struggling with a range of challenges including low mood, anxiety and trauma. She is experienced in working with neurodiversity and modifying interventions to meet the needs of each individual child and family. Much of Lauren’s work involves working alongside adults, helping them to support young people in their care. When needed, she is used to liaising with professional networks to ensure a consistent understanding and approach is delivered. Lauren carries out Cognitive Assessments to assess a child’s academic functioning and strengths and weaknesses in areas such as verbal and non-verbal intelligence, speed of information processing and memory. 

Through her many years of experience Lauren has developed a warm and approachable style. She is trained in a range of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Person-Centred and Solution Focused Therapy.
