Luca Farkas
Clinical Psychologist
Luca is an experienced Clinical Psychologist. She trained as a psychologist in Hungary, working in the largest Child and Adolescent Mental Health service there for over 12 years, before moving to the UK. She currently holds an NHS post in a specialist eating disorder team for children and adolescents based in north London, one of the largest CAMHS eating disorder services in the country, which aims to help young people with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or atypical variations of these disorders to recover fully in the community. Luca also has extensive experience of working with adults in private practice.
Luca provides specialist input into IPC’s Child and Adolescent and Adult Mental Health clinics. She works across the lifespan with children, adolescents and adults and is skilled in working with individuals and families who are experiencing complex mental health or emotional difficulties including mood disorders, eating disorders, anxieties and phobias, stress, trauma, self- esteem issues, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, as well as tic disorders. Luca also works with a wide range of professionals across health, education and social care settings to develop a shared understanding of young people’s needs and how best to support them. Luca is experienced in offering support for parents of children experiencing emotional and mental health problems and has trained in family therapy approaches for eating disorders.
Luca believes it is crucial to provide a warm and containing environment for her patients. She uses a range of psychological models to guide her clinical work; including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (including third wave approaches such as Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Mentalization Based Therapy, EMDR, Psychodynamic, Systemic and trauma-informed approaches.
