Developmental Assessments
Clinical psychologists can perform specific assessments of children’s developmental abilities. Sometimes this might be to reach a correct diagnosis for informing ongoing interventions. Our team are committed to delivering evidenced based psychological approaches to meet the individual needs of children and their families.
We offer comprehensive child assessments to obtain an understanding of what is contributing to the areas of concern identified. These may include challenging behaviour, anxiety, low mood, lack of confidence, mental health issues, difficulties with social communication and learning.
As part of the comprehensive generic assessments we screen to identify any developmental or neurodevelopmental issues that may be impacting on a child’s development and functioning, including specific difficulties such as ADHD, Dyslexia or Asperger’s Syndrome. If screening indicates any underlying neurodevelopmental issues we will discuss the options for further specialist assessment tailored to your child’s areas of strength and difficulty. This may include:
- Cognitive assessments to investigate learning skills, any developmental issues (such as Dyspraxia, Dyslexia) and areas of giftedness impacting on your child’s functioning
- Autism diagnostic assessment (ADOS-2 and ADI-R)
Depending on your child’s presentation, specialist assessments are usually undertaken in collaboration with Consultant Paediatricians, Consultant Psychiatrists and Occupational Therapists.
