Cognitive Assessments

What is a Cognitive Assessment?
We carry out cognitive assessments for children, teenagers and adults. A Cognitive Assessment is a detailed assessment of an individual’s abilities, academic functioning and strengths and weaknesses in areas such as verbal and non-verbal intelligence, speed of information processing and memory. It identifies how someone is functioning intellectually and their unique abilities profile, to help the individual and/or those supporting them understand how to help them reach their potential and navigate the areas of functioning which they find challenging.

How can a Cognitive Assessment be helpful?

Children and Adolescents
Some parents may want to identify their child’s cognitive profile to understand how best to support their academic journey and other parents may have specific concerns about their child’s learning. These may be about their child’s overall school performance or wanting to assess specific learning issues such as Dyslexia or Dyscalculia. Some children may have a physical health condition which could impact their neurological functioning or have been diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (ADHD) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), with their family wanting to learn how this impacts on their child’s learning. The report will give tailored recommendations and suggestions to help you and your child’s school to best support their learning.

Our practice specialises in cognitive assessments to explore potential ADHD for your child or teenager. We also regularly carry out assessments for international school entry.

Adults
We carry out cognitive assessments for adults wanting to understand their cognitive and intellectual profile. This may be to understand their strengths and difficulties to help with problems such as learning issues which are coming up at work and could also include assessing issues such as attention and concentration, planning and organisation. We carry out ADHD focused cognitive assessments for those wanting to explore possible ADHD.

Practicalities
Cognitive assessments are always tailored to the individual and the specific questions they would like answered. The assessments take approximately 3-4 hours to carry out and are carried out in person on Friday daytimes at our clinic in W1, Central London. The fee for the assessment is £1,500, which includes a full report with recommendations and a feedback session to discuss the results.
